3D Video on Skype / Tinychat / Ustream, with cheap webcams!

| Posted in , | Posted on 11/30/2009

Some geeks figured out a way to create 3D for online video chat rooms, or voip conversations with webcams. This is awesome to me, but I have that inner geek in me... Could also imagine some of the chicks in tinychat or people that do ustream videos, integrating this into their stuff, which would be cool.

via Wired.com - "The best hacks are often the simplest. FourEyes3D is one of these, and it takes a pair of standard webcams and uses them to make a stereo video, letting you beam your ugly mug in three glorious dimensions to anyone who can be convinced to watch.

Hook up the cams and the software (Mac-only) combines the two feeds into one stereoscopic image. The trickiest part is the actual positioning of the cameras, as the developer tells us: “The finicky part is mounting your matched pair of generic USB webcams 90 millimeters apart (the same distance apart as your own eyes).”

Best of all, you don’t need any fancy displays to view the 3D video. All you need is to send mom a pair of red/cyan specs and she can peek at your z-axis over your next iChat video call. This is because the stereo images from the cameras are converted to the old 1950s-style, headache-inducing anaglyph method I think this would be a lot of fun, especially on my weekly family Skype calls. Just whether it would be $30 worth of fun is another matter, but there is a demo available."

A long shopping weekend...

I had family in town this weekend. Even with multiple computers and my cellphone, I couldn't get online much to blog, tweet, use facebook or browse the numerous forums & news sites I read. Will go back and see if I missed anything, that I find interesting.

What a long sale weekend it was, and the amount of driving I did, and walking around supercenters and malls were crazy. My brother came in from Nassau, Bahamas, to shop because everything there is way more expensive. It was good having my bro here for the weekend. My legs are killing me though, like back in high school after running track (I need a massage). I didn't get to watch "Ninja Assassin", so I will this week.

Also it's Cyber Monday today, so if you aren't done shopping (like myself). We will be browsing/shopping at work. I get to work at 10am today, and will be updating my Hustleman Deals throughout the day as I search for deals for myself.

Just a Kalik Thought...

Mopar the forgotten Ol'Schools...

| Posted in , , | Posted on 11/25/2009

Dodge Demon & Aspen are two Mopar cars that catch my eye...

I’m a huge fan of Mopar muscle cars (Dodge / Plymouth). Everyone I hear in southern rap is up on the Chevies. Does anyone rep Ford ( Bueller, Bueller, anyone ? )

I always wanted a Baracuda but a decent one in driveable condition, starts at the price you could pay for a new Challenger SRT. In that instance, I’d take the Chally. But don't sleep, when everyone is on the Monte Carlo, Camaro, Impala, Nova tip, you could be unique for half the price. Come thru stuntin in a unique ride...

Some people may not get it, Kalik isn't into the flasy ish. I prefer functional over big chrome bling, don't get me wrong. I like 22's and under on my muscle cars (preferably 20's / 22's and a lowered suspension) but I would never get chrome rims, it would be machined or billet. These old Mopars have the same bolt pattern of the Ford Mustangs, so good staggered rims aren't hard to find. You can still go wild on the paint colorway, thats always an option or flat-black it. Do you... the point is to be unique. For go fast goods, people are stuffing the 6.1 Hemi's from the new SRT's under the hood. I wouldn't rush out to do that unless I blew the original v8 though (360 which is already a over 5 liters in the Aspen R/T)

The ride Kalik wants, but slammed and on 20's classic rims! Flat Black...

This is more work off of the classic in the making BlakRoc album. This track starts off with Nicki Wray laying down an awesome southern melody. Jim Jones is invited to spit on the track... and he kills it.

The second video is Mos Def, doing another track for the album (or the Mos Def, Curren$y & Jay Electronica collab) both under Dame's supervision.

Road Trains...

If Florida doesn't get the high speed train going soon, this is also dope and should be considered.

In Europe they are testing "Road Trains" where cars line up and a lead car or bus, controls all of the other cars computers GPS and Cruise control remotely to drive em. You just pull up behind the bus on the highway, link up to the bus, and he will be doing the driving. That sounds sweet, also sounds like in the movies (Fifth Element, Star Wars, Minority Report, I Robot etc) when you see all the flying cars zipping around, I always wondered how'd they stay in a straight line.

The lead vehicle will be driven by an experienced motorist — it may even be a bus that regularly travels the route — while the functions of each following vehicle will be automatically controlled and tethered to the actions of the lead car so that individual drivers can hammer out e-mails or eat breakfast. Despite the project’s name, cars can exit at any time.

While the project,  sounds futuristic, all it requires are navigation systems that communicate with the lead vehicle and control acceleration and steering. The project’s lead agencies estimate that vehicles will begin testing in 2011 and say a full-scale rollout is likely within a decade.

"This type of autonomous driving actually doesn’t require any hocus-pocus technology, and no investment in infrastructure,” said Erik Coelingh of Volvo, one of the principal companies participating in the project. “Instead, the emphasis is on development and on adapting technology that is already in existence.”

Classic Atari games online...

Dunno about your family, but my cousins (and my bro later on) got their Atari 2600 back in like 82-83, and that changed my life. I was always the one of the youngest so I didn't get much game time in. Classics like Adventure, Combat, Asteroids, Galaga, Pac-Man... the list can go on.

Atari has a few games online and playable so since it's slow at work, I'm gonna mash up some Adventure and listen to some Curren$y. (the soundtracks to these games are crap). Games currently available are Asteroids, Battlezone, Crystal Castles and Lunar Lander. More games are to be added in the near future.

Obama + The Clipse + Fried Chicken = Censorship

The Clipse's video "Popular Demand" I mentioned last week, HERE, has been edited for television broadcast. Now I know Obama eats fried chicken, and listens to rap, so what's the big deal?

Here's what NBC NEW YORK said “A recently released music video for “Popular Demand” by the Clipse featured the awning of the infamous Obama Fried Chicken joint in Brownsville, Brooklyn. But in comparing versions of the video airing on MTV and elsewhere, it looks like the TV channel completely erased the restaurant’s name from the awning in the video’s opening shot."

Tattoos of the future...

| Posted in | Posted on 11/23/2009

0

How about a tattoo, that is actually on you, in the open. That you can control who sees it and when? Maybe when your neck is brushed by your lover it shows up due to electronic impulses? I don't know the science behind it, and actually as of right now, my skin is a virgin (which is rare these days). I do want sleeves like Craned on bodybuilding.com (no homo on the pic, but thats my motivation to get in shape). But imagine having sleeves that shift and colors turn on and off. This will be the future...

The title character of Ray Bradbury’s book The Illustrated Man is covered with moving, shifting tattoos. If you look at them, they will tell you a story.
New LED tattoos from the University of Pennsylvania could make The Illustrated Man real (minus the creepy stories, of course). Researchers there are developing silicon-and-silk implantable devices which sit under the skin like a tattoo. Already implanted into mice, these tattoos could carry LEDs, turning your skin into a screen.
The silk substrate onto which the chips are mounted eventually dissolves away inside the body, leaving just the electronics behind. The silicon chips are around the length of a small grain of rice — about 1 millimeter, and just 250 nanometers thick. The sheet of silk will keep them in place, molding to the shape of the skin when saline solution is added.
These displays could be hooked up to any kind of electronic device, also inside the body. Medical uses are being explored, from blood-sugar sensors that show their readouts on the skin itself to neurodevices that tie into the body’s nervous system — hooking chips to particular nerves to control a prosthetic hand, for example.
Chips are already used inside bodies, most notably the tiny RFID tags injected into pets. But the flexible nature of these “tattooed” circuits means they can move elastically with the body, sitting in places that a rigid circuit board couldn’t.
The first displays are sure to be primitive, but likely very useful for the patients that receive them. You won’t be getting the full-color, hi-res images that come with ink, but functional displays. This doesn’t mean that the commercial and artistic possibilities are being ignored. Philips, the electronics giant, is exploring some rather sexual uses:

NES / SNES Duo Console..

If you are like me, you probably have 75-100 old games in boxes or laying around still being played from the 80's NES or early 90's SNES consoles. My sons and I still play the old games from time to time. We buy carts from yard sales and flea markets for maybe $2-$4 depending on what game it is. Come to think of it I still need a few games I am missing.. Contra, Super Metroid, Metal Gear 2 are some off the top of my head.

The Retro Duo is a Nintendo NES and SNES in one device. It allows you to play either the older SNES games or even older NES games and can get you started into retro Nintendo gaming, if you don't want to use an emulator and play on your PC. It's one of the few things from my childhood I still enjoy. Cart games > CD/DVD games, in my opinion. They still work after 20 years, don't get scratched. (But you have to blow that dust off)

Ninja Assassin...

Most people are looking forward to Thanksgiving to see family and friends, eat, football and Black Friday shopping. All of that is well, but this year if you are into Karate / Kung-Fu / Ninja flicks like Kalik is, then you have to stop and take 2 hours and go see Ninja Assassin.

Growing up in the Bahamas, when I was a kid on Nassau we only had movie theatre, and no it didn't have 20 screens like the AMC and Muvico's stateside. It literally only had 1 screen. Big ups to Shirley Street Theatre and my friends aunt that would get us in free, and my uncle who owned a bar across the street that would give us sodas and chips to sneak in. Anyways, sometimes (often) they would get in Kung Fu movies so I grew up watching these and loving em. My favorite was a Scorpion style classic, and my boss at work "Mow" actually hooked me up and gave it to me last year.

Also spent many days watching Bruce Lee flicks by Duff's (Mr Steez - Bahamian rapper) house when I was a kid... Man I remember that Bruce Lee vs Kareem Abdul-Jabbar joint... classic!

This year Ninja Assassin is being released stateside, it is an American made movie, not from the far east. Not sure on the plot but really I don't care. Some dude disobeys/dishonors his clan, and the clan is out to kill him and he's a one man army (ninja) taking them on. Simple, but hey it works.

Must see movie, this week...

Is that weed good or bad? Tips...

| Posted in | Posted on 11/22/2009

0

If you are going to go out and make a purchase of something, it is always good to know as much about it as possible beforehand. That's why you research your car before you buy it or read reviews about products before you purchase them. It is part of being a smart consumer. Buying weed is no different. If you don't know the ground rules of buying good weed and how to spot good or bad weed when you see it, it is going to be a problem for you in the long run. Smart dealers can tell a newbie buyer from a mile away so you will get hit with the "this is superchronicotilite weed" and really it is just some bullshit with a fancy, made up name.

Now to be fair, if you are trying to be economically sound and you would rather have quantity (more bad weed) over quality (less good weed) then be my guest but it is still important to be able to identify good/bad weed when you see it. Here are 12 tips on figuring out whether your weed purchase was a good one or not.

1. Look for lots of crystals. The more the better. If you can look at your weed closely and see lots of crystals in it, it's a safe bet that you are going to be pretty high soon.

2. Shouldn't be too dry. Good weed is not going to be dry or feel like it's been sitting out in the sun for too long. If there is no stickiness or it just crumbles as you break it up, that is probably not a good sign. If it looks like this, you bought some bad shit.schwag

3. Lots of sticks and seeds is never a good sign. A few here and there are to be expected but if you have an excessive amount of sticks and seeds, that is a PROBLEM. Not only for the fact of you having to sort through all them but the fact that you know that the quality of the weed you just purchased isn't the best.

4. It should be green. Certain other colors are acceptable too but mainly it should be green. You can also find good weed they has hints of purple, orange or red and you can usually bet that it is going to be pretty good. Brown weed is NOT an acceptable color.

5. Potency of the smell is a key to figuring out quality. Dank weed smells just like the word says, dank. Sometimes it will be so strong that you can smell it through the bag. Next time you have some weed, take some time to smell it and figure out what exactly good weed smells like. It is hard to describe but if you have bad weed it will usually have a very faint or no smell. Not good.

6. Shouldn't be too wet. Just like dry weed, if your weed is soggy that is not good. Even if its dank it will affect the way it breaks up and you don't want that, especially in these hard recessionary times. We need to stretch the weed as far as we possibly can.

7. Really leafy weed is not a good. Usually if you get sold weed that happens to be really leafy, that means that it is just a lot of fluff. It usually won't break down well or be able to really be stretched out at all.
8. Look for hairs. Those little hairs on the end of your weed are like gold. If there are a lot of them then that is gonna be some great weed.

9. Avoid bullshit dealers. I can't emphasize how important it is to have dealers you can trust. If you have a guy that consistently has good stuff, hold on to him as long as you possibly can (not literally). Check out this guide on the traits of good dealers if you don't know one when you see one.

10. It should feel sticky when you break it up. There is a reason why rappers always brag about having that "sticky icky icky." Stickier weed that is harder to break up will always get you way higher than that weed that just crumbles as you break it up. Ack. Can't stand that.

11. Sometimes there is no way to tell until you smoke it. It's a sad truth but sometimes you will never know whether or not the weed is good until smoke it. I have had weed that I thought was going to be magnificent based on all the tests above and it turned out to be horrible. On the other hand I've had weed that I smoked, expecting for it to have little or no strong affect and it turned out to be GRRRRREAT!!! Sometimes that's just the way it goes.

12. Experience counts for a lot. The reality is there are going to be times that you buy weed that sucks and times that you buy great weed. The more and more you buy it, the better you will become at figuring out what is what. Be patient, pay attention to what you buy and if you are a new weed buyer don't make it obvious or else you will get taken advantage of.

Plus him shouting out Bahamas in this gets bonus points! Daniel son ... Crane Kick!

Is it Better to Be Mixed Race?

| Posted in , | Posted on 11/21/2009

1

Kalik is "mixed race", but raised black and goes by black (don't get it twisted), also my kids are mixed.. I found this 46-minute video interesting..

"Geneticist Aarathi Prasad considers the theory that mixed-race humans are blessed with innate advantages, something farmers recognise in plants and animals as hybrid vigour. This idea is regarded as repellent by both dingbat racists and, as Prasad discovers, by many mixed-race people who object to being defined by their skin colour.. Before 1967, it was illegal in 16 American states for a black person and white person to marry. Right wing groups on both sides of the Atlantic continue to espouse that the mixing of races is destructive and against some kind of natural order. Aarathi Prasad, a geneticist and mother of a mixed race child, sets out to challenge the ideas of racial purity and examines provocative claims that there are in fact biological advantages to being mixed race."

Saturday - Who is SAVING Hip Hop (3) - Raekwon & Wu-Tang

| Posted in , | Posted on 11/21/2009

0

My first instinct was to say Wu-Tang as a whole group, but I would specifically like to point out Corey Woods, better known as Raekwon. He released his solo debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, in 1995, and has continued recording solo and with the Wu-Tang Clan since then. In 2009, Raekwon released the sequel to his critically acclaimed debut with the similarly praised Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt. II.

OB4CL better known as "the purple cassette" to me back in the day, was the holy grail for my crew. We would ride around in that white Ford Taurus, be smoking, chillin, or on full grind mode. All the words got wiped off over over-using it, and we must have copied it so many times, for each of us.

Fast forward 13 years to 2008. The chef was back in the kitchen, he created a masterpiece that feeds everyone that is starving for the 90's NY Era. Even myself, who after moving to Flawda in 96 became more of a southern rap head. I was highly anticipating this release...

Raekwon has "the album of the year", don't fall prey to the media pushing Jay-Z and Empire State of mind down ya throat. It's also really sad how most of the online rap communities only care about sales numbers and not the quality of work. Quote from an online forum - "What are you gonna do when Jay Debutes with 400,000 and Raekwon Legs 18,000?". Album sales numbers doesn't hold that much weight to me. Of course these rappers wanna sell, but seriously Fergie and her crew be beasting on the charts, and I never even wasted a second downloading their music. Some mixtape rappers that aint selling shit, be putting on quality too.

For all information on Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt. II - CLICK HERE

If you need a copy of the album, buy it if you can afford it... it can be found online though.

Royce Da 5′9″ vs. Lil Wayne – Best Rapper Alive?

| Posted in | Posted on 11/20/2009

“Since Jay-Z stopped worrying about being the best and declared himself the greatest, many people have claimed the title of Best Rapper Alive, but few as often as Lil Wayne and Royce Da 5′9″. While Wayne is a global superstar and Royce owns the underground, they seem to share similar taste in beats — “D.O.A.,” “I’m Me” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” as notable examples. I went ahead and put together twelve rounds of Nickel and Weezy facing off over the same beat, threw in a boxing motif, and now I’ll let the people decide.” – Trackstar the DJ

To watch: 1. Press Red > Play button in center of screen
2. Press Green > Play button in center of screen (if this pops up)

QD3's The Carter Documentary has been bootlegged. As a Lil Wayne fan, should I still go out and buy this? Not sure, even Wayne at the end of the doc being filmed didn't want it released becuase the "evidence" in the video of havinbg drugs and guns on the tour bus hurt his NY trial. Which ultimately lead to him pleading guilty and getting a 1 year bid. BUT on the other hand QDR worked hard and they should (as everyone should) get the fair money they deserve for making a quality piece of work. I will do what I have to do, it's up to you if you still buy it or not.

Roll up some kush, get ya drank, and watch the movie!

Edit - Megaupload only allowed 72mins of streaming, but you can download if you have a premium Megaupload account.

2nd Edit - I never saw a gun on the tour bus, either that scene was cut or it was a rumor. Great documentary.

Tyga - Black Thoughts

Young Money affiliate Tyga, is often forgotten. When you think Young Money Drake, Mack-Maine, Nicki Minaj and Gudda normally are associated with it, and Wayne of course. He has been overlooked on a few photo-shoots also... Why? Beats me, because I have been bumping most of his songs for the last year and half (that coconut lime song sucked though, BUT Cali-love and his mixtapes helped me forget that ish).

Tyga's latest mixtape "Black Thoughts" is available now. Give it a listen and see why he shouldn't be Young Money's U-God (most forgotten member of Wu-Tang).

The A-Team...

By now everyone who follows MMA knows Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will be playing B.A. Baracus. Ramage and Dana White the owner of UFC got into some heated disputes, which ultimately ended up with Rampage leaving UFC to pursue the "lead" role for the new A-Team movie. The movie is filming now...

On another note I am happy he got the role. We need another Black Action Hero, with Wesley Snipes out of the way and doing straight to DVD movies after his tax evasion stuff. My hopes were on Michael Jae White (Spawn, Batman, Black Dynamite). With the way Black Dynamite was released and handled I don't think that will be his major break into the Action Jackson mold set by Carl Weathers (who also played Apollo in Rocky, Predator and other classic films) and Mr. T (also in Rocky and the original B.A. Baracus)

Rampage I hope this furthers your career... Good luck bruh!

Directed by Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces), with (L-R) Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) as Face, former UFC champion Quentin ''Rampage'' Jackson as B.A., Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Murdock and Liam Neeson as Hannibal.

I'm still going to see what they have... hopefully I find a nice hoody. *Throws up the Westside "W" sign*

Is this the best "random" T-shirt site?

I've seen a few sites over the years selling t-shirts from unknown designers (for steep prices) and you aren't sure what quality you are buying. I ran across teeFury earlier this year and I was impressed. I have only bought 2 shirts from here, but the price is worth it $9 and $2 shipping. That price rivals Wal-Marts corny shirts... You can buy up to 3 shirts daily. Each day it's a new design (some are excellent, others are meh). Tip- Only buy the excellent ones, duh. The way it works is: HERE

Pill - 4075: The Refill

| Posted in | Posted on 11/19/2009

I'm not sure when I first heard of Pill. But I know where, it was over on the SOHH forums, probably early-summer of this year. Later on in the summer when we were discussing the current state of hip-hop, Pill's name surfaced again, thanks to "Hood Critic", and he was co-signed by SexyDeidra and myself.

Pill's beat selection is diverse. To me he blends southern sounding (on Trap Goin Ham) with something more eclectic (on Glass) and you can get wrapped up in it and miss what he is addressing sometimes. You don't want to miss out, because he does have the quality lyrics to go with the beats. He spits from trappin to more serious topics. Making him one of the Atlanta artists I see rising up to help keep the southern rap reigns over Hip-Hop last longer.

Dame Dash interview...

This is related to the "Who is Saving Hip-Hop!" post I made on Dame Dash. In this video he addresses the failure of Rocafella, Dipset, and his latest ventures being more indie based. His aspirations for Jim Jones to be succesful, and his realtionships (no homo) with some rappers over the years in the industry.

Bored late night? Can't get to the club?

After talking about the Dirty Copper Foamposites, I was asking myself, what kind of modern muscle car (anything 78+ or not older than me) would you want to driving while rockin them, and flying down I-75 on a clear night...

I upgraded  from Copper to Gold for my colorway of choice (yeah I cheated, but Gold is more me), here's my top 3.

1. Hurst 2009 - Dodge Challenger - Series 2
Series 2 is based on the R/T, aint no way in hell I can afford a Series 4 or higher
which is based on the SRT

2. 2007 Shelby Mustang GT-H
The H is for Hertz, yea the rental cars only 500 are made,
how many of the 500 are convertibles, I dunno but you can buy them
for the low compared to a retail Shelby, after they reach 25,000 miles.

 3. 1977 Pontiac TransAm - Year One Bandit Edition

...but I said 78 or newer and this is a 77?
Year One customized these 77's to be just as good as anything on the road today

Nike Air Foamposite One – Dirty Copper

Wale broke these out and got the sneaker blogs dreamin when he was seen rockin these while performing at Jay Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour stop in Baltimore. Below is a  detailed shot of what will be a popular release, and its not a Quickstrike or limited release, these will be in Finishline etc. The unique shape (that some find spectacular and others ugly) of the  Foamposite are made even more evident on this model in metallic copper, which highlights the foam material featured on the upper. Clear soles, black on the heel, lace area, tongue and midfoot is a nice way to tone down the copper color.

Lil Wayne - The Carter Documentary (10 min preview)

The Carter Documentary was released on DVD on November 17th. Here is the first 10 minutes of the documentary which premiered a few nights back in LA. It includes Lil Wayne recording his verse for “Swagga Like Us”, but the final version was a lil different. Watching the 10 minutes video reminded me of how Weezy held my eardrums captive for a good run, on his way to becoming "The Best Rapper Alive!". The mixtapes he released on the way to dropping Carter 3 were monumental for me, as most songs on these were better than most trash albums out at the time. The documentary was filmed during that time period...

Mad Cobra - Crimology (Israel Riddim) Vybz Kartel Diss

Big up my bro Tico! My first ever legal albums I ever owned was Mad Cobra (Girl Flex)and Naughty By Nature (OPP). I got them on my 12th birthday. Before that all I owned were maxwell bootlegs tape from The Hit Spot (local shop in Nassau, Bahamas).

When I heard this earlier I thought of my big bro.

Plus the diss track goes hard, can't wait to here the answer back!

Clipse feat. Cam'ron - "Popular Demand"

Ok I'm back by popular demand to do a review on this video. Pusha T kills the 1st verse ... and he comes in hard and sets the tone for the song. Over heavy bass and with a killer hook this is going to get serious play.

Popular Demand is the latest video off of the new album coming from Malice and Pusha T, the bros that form the highly acclaimed gangsta rap group "The Clipse". The album is titled "Till the Casket Drops" and it will be dropping 12/8/09.

This will be the first album for "The Clipse" using other producers besides the Neptunes, so expect a variety of hard hitters. I don't expect much deviation from what they talk about "Drugs, women, cars, flossin, clothing.." but they deliver it in a way that you can't stop and marvel, rewind and be like damnnnnn.

What I find funny in a sense is GQ magazine is running an article this month about Wale, Drake and Kid Cudi. It's titled the "Gangsta Killers", and goes on to say they killed the gangsta persona in rap. I guess GQ didn't interview Malice and Pusha T for their viewpoints. These boys aint stopping "...from pushin a mountain of snowcaps / to avoidin the Kojak (courtroom) / the pioneer of the coke rap / Im dancing with the stars, stepping on blow doing the toe-tap / the dope returns like I had it on lojack / it made its way home like a roadmap..."

On Dec. 8 - Reup and get the new album from "The Clipse", gangsta rap aint going nowhere.
